Air Force (Cairns Army Airfield)

Army Fleet Support, LLC, United States Air Force Project, at Cairns Army Airfield, provides around the clock maintenance and logistics support for the 23rd Flying Training Squadron of the 58th Special Operations Wing (SOW) from Kirtland AFB, NM. The USAF phased out 40 UH-1H “Huey” Iroquois helicopters and replaced them with the TH-1H “Huey II” establishing the TH-1H as the undergraduate pilot training platform for all Air Force rotory wing aircraft students. The TH-1H is a Bell UH-1H helicopter with an integrated upgrade kit, or Huey II kit, which encompasses a more powerful engine and new dynamic components including nose and tailboom with a repositioned tail rotor to the right side for better efficiency. The cockpit and mission equipment upgrades include a change from analog to digital cockpit, the addition of crashworthy seats, and total rewiring. These modifications literally transform the legacy UH-1H aircraft into a state-of-the-art training platform compatible with current & future operational aircraft. The TH-1H “Huey II” is capable of carrying two pilots and 11 passengers.
